Pokémon red / blue: Fan builds cool 3D version of the Game Boy

Star Fox (Jap. スタ スタ スタ, Suva Focus) is a computer game collection of Nintendo developed by Shiner Miyamoto. In Europe, the 1993 collection video game showed up for the Super Nintendo Home Entertainment System under the name Starting.

For a good month, we can experience the fourth Pokémon generation with the switch-remakes radiant diamond and glowing pearl in 3D. YouTuber Codycaneatthis took the occasion to miss a 3D look of the first generation. The fan wanted to stay red / blue at the pixel look of Pokémon. What has come out has really styled?

The next classic with a 3D world

It's about it: The YouTube channel of Codycaneatthis is known for cool self-built Remaster versions of gaming classics. So Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda came to the series. Now Codycaneatthis has tried to Pokémon red / blue and documented the project and challenges in an exciting video that you see here:

Important decisions: At first the fan had to choose a style and has decided in addition to the already mentioned pixel look for staying closer to the original and only work with gray tones, instead of add more colors. This makes everything, as Codycaneatthis notes, very stylized.

Challenges in the replica of the Kant World: Codycaneatthis met with several difficulties when creating his 3D world, which cost much time. These include the stages we can jump over an obstacle, but can not return. For the fan a sign that it is an increase of which we can depict, but can not climb up again. That had to be found the perfect height.

Also textures, water and the Skybox were not so easy to implement. The goal was to create a really accurate replica. Finally, all cities, routes and landmarks were created and Codycaneatthis is really satisfied with the result.

Here you can see a trailer to radiant diamond / luminous pearl for comparison:

The biggest problem was the Pokémon itself

Of course, however, the most important thing is not missing: the Pokémon itself! Since Codycaneatthis was not possible to build all, the fan decided for the starters and the pocket monsters of the arena conductors. When creating the 3D models, however, Codycaneatthis stated at limits, since the 2D models are displayed from angles, which made the translation extremely difficult.

The solution: Finally, the decision was about 2D models that always turn so that they look at the camera — according to the model of Paper Mario.
